Smiles 2 Geaux is a non-profit public health organization that utilizes mobile dental clinics to provide high-quality oral health care to underserved and disadvantaged populations within New Orleans. S2G works with a range of public, private, and community-based organizations to provide comprehensive dental care to children and senior citizens who cannot afford treatment due to financial difficulty. S2G aims to make oral health accessible for all populations in New Orleans, regardless of age or socioeconomic status, using mobile dental clinics.
School-Based Dental Care Program. All children require and deserve quality dental care regardless of their socioeconomic status. S2G’s school-based program provides preventative dental care to children at eligible schools to eliminate the existing oral health disparity. Eligible schools include public and charter schools with a high proportion of students enrolled in free/reduced-cost lunch programs and are selected based on the availability of funding and dental care providers. Program services include: annual dental cleaning and fluoride application, sealants, basic restorations, follow-up care, and oral health education.
Geriatric Dental Care Program. Financial difficulty often prevents senior citizens in New Orleans from receiving regular dental care. Private dental insurance and public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid offer limited reimbursement for senior citizens’ dental expenses. This program intends to provide care to senior citizens at retirement homes, nursing homes, and other residential institutions. S2G aims to make dental care accessible to all individuals regardless of financial status, particularly for those who are home-bound or institutionalized.
